ABOUT THE SENSEI

NELSON LEÓN

Hello, my name is Nelson Leon, a Venezuelan born human being from planet Earth. I am a Calisthenics, Yoga and Movement Coach but most importantly, a student of Movement. Throughout my life, I’ve practiced different sports since the age of 5 yo; I practiced Track and Field, Baseball and Rugby. Rugby being the one I played the longest; some of my best memories are with my rugby families, it’s by far one of my favorite sports ever, “a Barbarian Game Played By Gentlemen”. Rugby has taught me many life lessons and values, such as team work, camaraderie, perseverance, hard work, modesty and courage. Due to injuries I transitioned from Rugby to Calisthenics, to improve my mobility and strength.

 

After I found Calisthenics, I shortly discovered Mixed Movement Arts at the Budokon Academy in Miami, that taught me different movement patterns as a form of expression, a language - a new language. This was a turning point in my career from rough sports to the elegance of Mixed Movements Arts. At the beginning it was hard for me to understand that hard physical training isn’t just to go and win a game, is in fact to allow you to grow as an individual, a better version of Yourself. The competition isn't against the other team, it is always against myself, one-on-one against me.

TRAIN WITH ME

I will guide you through this journey and allow you to explore how movement develops your body and stillness your mind. We will combine Calisthenics, Yoga and animal locomotion to build the foundation of a healthy tissue; strong, flexible and injurie free.

SIMIUSYARD

Organically grown in our own  Miami home backyard, the SimiusYard Class will normally start with a meditation, an invitation to zen in and to set an intention to your practice, an intention we will later revisit.

 

After meditation class will start moving gently through Budokon Yoga or Mobility. After the body is warmed up and zenned in we start our strength practice to at last close with a meditation and breathwork.

The way of the warriors spirit

“I found Budokon in December of 2016 and ever since I have been fascinated by its model and way of life. I remember my first big lesson I learned on the first TT I participated in February 2017 – Budokon Calisthenics: “Cut the bullshit”. At the end of that week I came home as new or more informed person and noticed how much of BS we insist on put up in front of everything, excuses, reasons why, reasons because, etc.  

 

Knowing where all this Budokon Movement started gives you a great perspective on why I still follow it and where I want to be with this movement in the future. Interesting to know how Camerons Shayne’s southern heritage mixed with the liberal LA world has shaped him into the main and pioneer of the Budokon philosophy.
